My first finished illustration from Terry Pratchett's The Last Continent; the town pub in Dijabringabeeralong, Fourecks.
Good grief, this took me ages! There are still a lot of things I'd like to refine or change, but this'll do for now, no worries.
I didn't actually go back and reread this passage before doing this, so I've probably put some incorrect things in there, but I tried to fill it with as much other random Australiana as possible, from my limited knowledge of Australian country pubs (which tells me that folk-singers are mandatory). I liked the book's description of the animals in the pub too, so I tried to include some of the well-known ones, including my favourite, the Tassie Tiger. If you zoom in, the picture of the kangaroo on the ROOBEER poster is grinning evilly at Rincewind. It still doesn't feel as dusty and crowded and hot and smelling-of-beer as I would like, but other than that I'm quite happy with the outcome
Comments/criticisms/suggestions welcome! I'm intending to do as many illustrations from the novel as I can get around to, and am interested in everyone's opinion on this type of style - not that they need to be all in this style (which is what I consider my deafult), but some consistency in the look of it would be nice!
Inked in Toonboom (ah, my dearest vector - I will never ink anything in PS again, Hurrah!), and coloured in Photoshop.
Note: Big Picture, but please view full-size if you want to see all the little bits of detail!
Discworld content belongs to Terry Pratchett, art by me.
[EDIT: I buggered up, and originally had this titled 'Bugarup Pub'. In glancing through the chapter again however, to my horror, I realised I had mixed the town names up. SHAME.]
Wow, this is amazing! So many little details and I LOVE the colours. 8D This would rock as an animated movie with you as an art director or something. X)

"Captain Carrot is an honest young man, Vimes." "Yes, sir." "And did you know that he winces when he hears you tell a direct lie?" "Really, sir?" damn.
Thanks so much! Whoo, I'd love to see some more Discworld animation happening too! It seems like they're into the live-action adaptations for the moment though, with David Jason playing as many parts as possible (my apologies Mr Jason, I do like you, really!).

religion would be ok if we practiced what we preached. 98% of teenagers smoke or have tried smoking pot. If you are one of the 2% who realizes that this is statistical bullshit, put this in your siggy. ^^
ha - I love the shady-looking characters in the back there. You'd probably have to throw a layer or something on top if you wanted it dustier - you know how the light goes through it. some of that fancy layer-brush-magic yall digital artists do. lol. A yellow sky rather than blue'd help too, make it later in the day ... just some suggestions
Thanks very much! Where abouts in aus are you from? I'm from NSW myself, it's just that I don't reside anywhere remotely outback so I was hoping I got the general feel right!

Thankyou! Thanks also for the suggestions, I tried out yellowy sky and have spent the last 5 minutes flicking between the two, trying to decide whether I should stick with blue or not, because you're right, yellow does look good! I'll definitely experiment with some dust and sun rays and and things in there too - hehe, I thought you said 'you'd probably have to throw a lawyer in there or something' as a reference to the shady-looking characters in the backgrounds, which made me chuckle until I actually reread it correctly Thankyou for the advice!
